Just because YOU can't handle a credit card, does not mean that no one else can. My parents have had credit cards since they've been teenagers, and have never missed a payment. I've had a credit card since I got a job when I was 17, and I've paid all my bills in full, on time, every time. Needless to say that I work in a cell center making $10/hour, I certainly don't have an endless amount of money that I can pay my bills off with. I just budget. I don't like carrying around a lot of cash with me, and the credit card works perfectly. Just know that you are responsible for paying for whatever you purchase. If your planning on making all your payments on time, it doesn't matter what the interest rate is, however common sense says that if something does come up (life happens), the lower the interest rate the better. Just MAKE SURE that you have a card that has NO annual fee's. Visa offers this, as does master card, and possibly others but I'm not sure.
